Aim: what is job design?
Describes the work an individual is suppose to preform

Characteristics

  1. Skill Variety- The number of different skills a worker needs to preform a job.
  2. Task Identity- Refers to the degree to which a job allows a worker to complete the entire task.
  3. Task significance- The level of impact a job has on a whole organization.
  4. Autonomy- Independence to make decisions about how to preform.
  5. Feedback- When managers let workers know how they are preforming generally happier at work
  6. Faculty layout - The process of planning the physical arrangement.
  7. Material planning- network that receiver, stores and moves materials between processing points.

Product Layout

  1. Product Layout- Group equipment and staff based on various steps..
  2. Process Layout- Group together to preform similar functions - Higher skilled workers are needed
  3. Fixed- Postion layout- the product is too large to move (not as efficient)
Ex: Construction Site, Airplane Ships

  • Assembly lines- Simplifies production planning

               (Bordom)

 (Weakest link affects everyone)

The physical work environment

Affects performance
too hot/ too cold
poor ventilated
noisy
poorly lit
crowded
distractions

Aim: what is process selection?

  • Equipment
  • Competence (is not readable in notes will fix it!)
  • Functions (Automatic)
Site Selection

The process of selecting a location for a business.

  • Community
  • Prices (neighborhood)
  • Proximity to job
  • Climate
  • shopping
  • suburbs (Rural)
  • Transportation
  • Parking
  • Animals

Aim: what are the force process of computers and technology?

  1. CAD- Computer Aid- Design
  2. CAE- Computer Aid- Engineering
  3. CAM- Computer Aid- Manufacturing
  4. CIM- Computer- Integrated manufacturing
Computer Aid- to design products which allow you to try various designs without manufacturing the product.

CAD helps identify defects or problems before companies spend millions on production that saves significant time.

CAE- helps business analyze performance under different condition.
Fashion, Auto, Home Buildings, Law enforcement

Cam- (Robotics)- Using robots to produce the Products/Service

CIM- Integrating all manufacturing operations to a single, smooth operations systems.

  1. Conception
  2. Design a development
  3. Production
  4. marketing
lowers manufacturing costs, reduces products time, and improves quality

Simplified Operating systems

Inputs >> {Labor} >>> {Information} >>> {Material}

Conversion Process>>>> {Plant} >>>> {Faculties} >>>>> {Equipment}

Good/Service

Out Put

Continuous flow- Used for standard products to keep in flow stock max efficiency

* (you need excellent planning

Operating  System- The process and activities need to produce goods/services
  • Continuous flow- Functions all the time regardless of customer order
  • Intermittent flow- Operates when an order needs to find... People, Faculties, Info, Material.
Intermittent
Used of customized
products/service
(people have different needs)

Aim: what is the role on an operation manager?
Someone who comes up with the blue print of the idea (concerned with production of goods and service)

  • Production S/S
  • Budgeting/ Finance
  • Detailing workers responsibilities
  • Efficiency Systems
Managers that responsible for the activities involved in producing the 9's for a company.

  1. Choose the process
  2. Selecting a production site
  3. Lay out of the faculty
  4. Designing workers Jobs
  5. Day to Day productions
  6. Controlling Costs
  7. Monitoring Inventory

Everyone should be responsible have ambition be logical have long-term goals be analytical sensitive to worker needs be well organized...

Work well with others
-Preforms under stress
-Good time management
